As one of the country’s most progressive and well-supported advocacy groups, Ride Sheffield are almost as well known for their social gatherings as for the links they’ve forged with local stakeholders and the trails they’ve got built.
And this year they’re stepping things up a notch with a makeover for their annual Winter Social, incorporating the punnily named “SHRED talks” – getting together a selection of local-ish MTB luminaries to chew the fat. And they want you to show your face too.
But why don’t we let RS themselves explain properly…
The Winter Social has been an important part of the fabric of Ride Sheffield since the very start. It’s a great chance for us to find out what the riders want us to be doing and for us to share our ideas for the future. But it’s also a brilliant opportunity to get the riding community together for a bit of fun, a few drinks and some great prizes from the local bike industry.
With this being the ninth winter social we thought it was a good idea to have a bit of a refresh before our tenth birthday next year.
The first big change is that we are moving to a newer, slightly bigger and more central venue at the Showroom/Workstation. It allows us a bit more space to do a few more interesting things; so we get to keep the best bits from before and add in something new….
Much more than a bad pun based around TED talks! This year we wanted to broaden our horizons and thought it would be interesting to invite a number of key riders, racers, filmer’s, builders and stalwarts of the scene to chat about “the Future of MTB”, a rather broad topic, but a good opportunity for a freewheeling chat between our guests….
* Bex Baraona – Ibis World Enduro Team/Gowaan Gals
* Josh Lewis – Santa Cruz Enduro Team/50:01
* Julia Hobson – Endless Trails and Juliana Bicycles Ambassador
* Jordan Gould – Bike Track
* Duncan Philpott – EWS and World Cup photographer
* Jon Dallow – Sheffield City Council
Questions are coming from you the riders and will be shortlisted in advance, but with plenty of opportunity for you to ask more on the night.
Afterwards they will be a chance to take part in a bike themed speed quiz and buy raffle tickets (with excellent prizes on offer donated by the local industry), share your thoughts and ideas with Ride Sheffield Ambassadors and but Ride Sheffield and Bolehills Stickers and T-Shirts.
In addition to the raffle and quiz prizes (we will post up a list of all supporting companies in advance of the event) Cotic Bikes have very generously donated a Bfe or Bfe 26 of the riders choice to auction. The auction will be on the night, but bids can be submitted in advance.
All money raised on the night goes straight back into the trails.
